I fell hard for this little one during his Vancouver Newborn Photography Session. Within a week of baby Haddon (pronounced Had – un) arriving home from the hospital, I joined him and his parents in their cozy East Van basement suite. Nicole and Joseph had turned his bedroom into a sweet place to hang out and chill–perfect for night-time feeds and daytime storytelling.
The time I spent with this family was super special. I was sure Nicole thought so too, so I asked how she felt about her experience. She was happy to share and answered my questions in her own words:
What’s your best advice for expecting moms?
“My best advice for expecting Moms is to give yourself grace in this new phase of life. It’s easy to be discouraged when your nursery might not look like it was featured in a magazine, or when you won’t have every item from “top 10 things every baby needs”, or when your bump seems too huge too soon compared to the “fit” mom’s tiny, tanned bump. Motherhood isn’t measured in Pinterest-worthy images. You are carrying life and you are more beautiful than ever.”
What was your biggest surprise about having Haddon?
“I never knew I could be so in love with someone I knew absolutely nothing about. I’m obsessed with a little human who has done nothing but take from me, yet I love him like no other.”
What was your favourite Newborn Session moment?
“Standing back watching my husband hold, smooch, and talk to our son, and knowing I would have amazing pictures of their interaction forever.”
What did you love most about working with Family Creative Imagery?
“Our photographer, Megan. She was flexible and sensitive being on “newborn time”. While super posed newborn photos with props are nice, she captured us simply doing life with our new baby – rocking him, swaddling him, or just hanging in the living room with him and it was exactly what we wanted.”
Why did you get your photos printed?
“It’s so important to me to have tangible prints in our home. I love when guests come over and before they sit down, they walk around the living room looking at our photos and ask questions about them. We get to relive each moment by telling the stories from that day. It’s so fun getting to decorate your home with art that just happens to be family photos.” – Nicole
After hearing Nicole’s feelings about motherhood and their session, I love this job even more. I want to thank you, Nicole and Joseph, for giving Family Creative Imagery the space to capture your beautiful family in a Newborn Session. I can’t wait to see Haddon grow. I’d be super grateful to keep capturing life’s little milestones and create more tangible art for your walls.
