Yalda and Mike’s UBC Rose Garden Wedding was in Mid-June, and in typical Vancouver fashion, it was pure misty drizzle all morning. But Mike optimistically kept holding out hope upon hope that it would stop raining. After delaying the ceremony start for about 15 minutes, sure enough, the rain stopped!
How does that Vancouver saying go, “If you don’t like the weather, just wait 20 minutes.”?
As soon as the rain stopped, everyone pitched in (including myself) to wipe down chairs, and get the audio equipment set up.
The ceremony was a beautiful fusion of Persian and Western cultures. Yalda’s aunt recited the wedding vows in Farsi, and then their friend translated them into English. Finally, everyone yelled “Mazel tov!” as Mike threw in a little bit of Jewish tradition and broke a glass.
They had a champagne reception in the rose garden, and in Persian tradition took lots of family photos!
It was a short and sweet wedding, and we were so honoured to be part of it!
